1) to clean the tip, heat it up and "paint" the tip with flux. Repeat this a couple of times, and you should start to see some clean tip appearing.

2) If the nut won't come loose, try a little "liquid wrench" or some other penetrating oil. If that doesn't work try wrapping some fabric around the barrel and putting it in a vise, then a pair of pliers to turn the nut.

3) If none of that works, you can return it to Cooper tools. If it's still under waranty, they'll fiox it free. If not, it might cost 20 or 30 dollars - at which point replacement might be a better alternative.
